This reward was then extended to the loot pool of the Master version of the Duality Dungeon in Season of the Haunted, and presumably the same will happen with the Master version of Season 19’s new unannounced Dungeon, perpetuating this cycle. While Artifice Armor is great to have and opens up build diversity in Destiny 2, players are in no way guaranteed good rolls on their armor’s stats, which instead is often achieved via stat focusing on regular armor by spending Umbral Engrams and seasonal currencies. As it stands, Artifice Armor can be problematic for this reason and also the fact that Exotic armor pieces can never benefit from the extra slot this particular armor provides, but there’s one fix Bungie could employ to kill two birds with one stone.

Why Destiny 2’s Artifice Armor Needs a Fix
The benefit of using regular armor pieces often resides in the fact that it’s accessible and easily farmable, meaning that players can get great stat rolls quickly from the comfort of the focusing table of a given Destiny 2 Season. On the other hand, having an additional mod slot on Artifice Armor can drastically make the difference between builds performing well and builds that are not so great, even if the extra slot only works for seasonal mods.
The two benefits are somewhat contradicting one another because most times players either have to give up great stats on a piece of armor, or they have to give up an extra mod slot, which can be fair to a degree to avoid power creep in a healthy game. And yet, Destiny 2 is already too far gone in terms of power creepy that at this point it’s just a matter of quality of life. As such, the fix Bungie could go for is to instead make Master Dungeons award a new currency type that can be spent to turn any armor piece into Artifice Armor.
How Destiny 2 Players Could Get Artifice Armor Slots on Any Piece of Gear
This solution would solve two problems at once because it not only allows players to give any armor piece they wish the Artifice slot, but it could also be done to add that slot to Exotic armor, which currently cannot have it. Assuming this hypothetical currency could be only obtained upon clearing Destiny 2’s Master Dungeons or by dismantling Artifice Armor, Bungie could make it work similarly to Ascendant Shards in its requirements. For example, making any regular armor piece into Artifice Armor could require a single unit of this currency, whereas an Exotic armor would require three.
These don’t have to be the exact numbers, and considering that Artifice Armor is still considered one of the best things in the game, it should be expensive to turn even a single regular armor piece into it. Still, Destiny 2’s Master Raids could also drop this currency, and maybe Grandmaster Nightfalls too, providing those who play endgame content with a reward that is consistently good and not entirely random. Ultimately, while Season 19 would be too early to get something like this in the game, Lightfall could be a good time for Bungie to start this discussion internally and see if its fits the game.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
